About Us
Who Are We
|
We are a group of volunteers who wish to support the goals of the Iwo Jima Survivors Association, Inc. The Iwo Jima Survivors Association is headquartered in Connecticut but has members all over the United States.
The WWII Battle of Iwo Jima was fought February 19th through March 26th, 1945. It was the bloodiest battle in Marine history, resulting in the deaths of 6,821 American servicemen and wounding over 19,000 more.
The purpose of the Iwo Jima Survivors Association, Inc. is to educate others about the history of the battle and to honor and remember the men who fought and died there.
On February 23, 1995, the 50th anniversary of the historic flag raising on Iwo Jima, the Survivors unveiled and dedicated a monument they built to honor the 100 servicemen from Connecticut who died during the battle. The National Iwo Jima Memorial Monument is located on the east side of the Central Connecticut State University campus off Ella Grasso Boulevard.
In 2009, the Support Our Survivors of Iwo Jima organization was formed by volunteers who wanted to show their appreciation and support for these WWII veterans. The Support Our Survivors of Iwo Jima is approved by the Iwo Jima Survivors Association, Inc. and our members aid the Survivors in accomplishing their goals. Any funds raised go directly to the Iwo Jima Survivors Association, Inc. |

We support their goals by promoting public awareness and education of the WWII Battle of Iwo Jima and recognition of all veterans who fought and died there. A Note about Donations:
|
The Iwo Jima Survivors Association, Inc. , a non-profit 501 (c) (19) veterans organization, does accept financial contributions. These would be used to produce their Iwo Jima Survivors Journal, organize their FINAL reunion and to fund their educational and memorial programs. Information on how to contact the survivors to make a donation can be found on our Contact Us page.
The Journal is filled with one-of-a-kind articles, letters photos and information from fellow survivors. It is greatly enjoyed by all and is a crucial link in keeping the veterans united. The survivors would like to gather with their comrades for one final reunion. This will be held in Connecticut during August 2010. In conjunction with the 65th Flag Raising Anniversary Reunion, there will be a Candlelight Ceremony of Remembrance to honor the 100 men KIA, fellow survivors and all veterans.
The Support Our Survivors of Iwo Jima does not accept financial contributions. We do however, accept help from volunteers or donations of material items needed to carry out the mission of the Iwo Jima Survivors Association, Inc. Items which we frequently need are bottled water, photocopying, stamps, event signage, printer ink and office supplies. We do have a great need for volunteers to help. We have listed some suggestions on how you can help on our Get Involved page.
We thank you in advance for your interest and help.
