Get Involved

There are many ways you can get involved with the Iwo Jima Survivors Association and the Support Our Survivors of Iwo Jima.  You can volunteer your time, talents or resources.

Our current needs are:

  • Computer help
  • Journalism/Writers
  • Photography help
  • Researchers and display posters
  • Volunteers for the Motorcycle Poker Run

We are looking for help with Planned Events:

  • Flag Raising Anniversary
  • Flag Day Open House
  • Motorcycle Poker Run
  • Parades
  • Candlelight Ceremony of Remembrance
  • Survivor Reunion
  • WWII and Iwo Jima Panel Discusssions

Some examples of ways you can help:

  • Organize and plan events
  • Make display signs
  • Publicity
  • Man the display tables
  • Set up and take down
  • Help with parking cars and traffic control
  • Guides and tours
  • Create informational posters and displays
  • Computer skills
  • Letter writing
  • Photography and videography
  • Park projects
  • Much more.....

Even if you don't live in Connecticut, you can still help:

  • Contribute articles to the website.
  • Maintain one of our regular features, ex. trivia question or looking back, ....
  • Create posters or displays.
  • Adopt-a-Survivor
  • Publicity
  • Computer help

There are programs we would like to start but need volunteers:

  • Adopt-A-Survivor:  This program would match a volunteer with an Iwo Jima Survivor who lives in their area (if one is available).  The volunteer would call or visit the survivor to keep in contact, pass along information from the SOS website or email, give the survivor a ride to events and act as a liason to communicate with those veterans not able to freely get around.
